Chasing learning opportunities...
The Product Initiative - August 2020
Ppalli is a published Chrome extension that aims to break the trend of binge-watching.
Our extension sets a countdown timer each time the users watch a video on YouTube.
With customizable watch time and break time interval, we implemented a three-strike system where
the user will be given a suggested mindful activity at each break. We integraged ReactJS, jQuery and the
Chrome API to build Ppalli, which serves to break the momentum of binge-watching by exploring more mentally healthy alternatives.
Personal Project - June 2020
At the beginning of quarantine, I felt overwhelmed by all the
new skills I told myself I should learn with all the unexpected time at home.
Hence I built Keenote, a blog-post style note-taking web app that
allowed my keener self to note down what I've learned and what more I want to learn.
Through Keenote, I explored the Python Django framework which was completely new to me,
while keeping track of my learning reflections.
TOHacks Project - May 2020
TOHacks was my first online hackathon. Inspired by the changing world due to COVID-19,
we wanted to mitigate the absense of spontaneous interpersonal experiences
from remote work, virtual classrooms and online conferences. We created KwikKonnect, a Slackbot
and video call platform that can be used to hold coffee chats, form new bonds, and staying connected.
I had a productive time learning and using Javascript, Node.JS, and HerokuApp.
EllHacks Project - May 2020
ElleHacks was a valuable experience in that it created an empowering, all-women environment. Exploring the issues of sustainability,
my team and I created a platform that connected business with charities to redirect food waste. This was my first time using the MERN stack
as well as MongoDB. We were delighted to recieve the Best Use of Domain.com Award from MLH.
Instagram Filter - July 2020
For a dear friend's birthday, I made the instagram filter Shihan's Bakery using
SparkAR and Adobe Sketch. It was a lot of fun to pick up the pen again (digital this time!)
and draw out new creations. I was also thrilled to explore SparkAR's different tools
for developers and playing around with the options.
StarterHacks Project - May 2020
StarterHacks was my first hackathon. Over the course of 24 hours, my teammates and I built a web app that allows manufacturers to view the harmful
effects and alternatives of industrial chemicals. Having no previous expereince in any web development languages, I learned HTML and CSS from scratch and created the front-end of our project.
We were lucky to recieve the Mentor's Choice Award out of 100+ teams.
Bringing myself to new challenges...
Laurier AshokaU Changemaker Campus - Mar 2020
Different from a normal case competition, Changemaker focuses on analyzing a persisting wicked problem in society and tackling the issue innovatively.
Our team researched about gender inequality in the STEM field, mapped out the system of existing solutions, and analyzed the gaps that needed to be filled.
We introduced our solution in a written report, accompanied by an illustrative infographic, and in a presentation.
Out of a pool of 250 teams, we were honored to place as the top 5 Finalist.
Laurier Xlerate Club - Jan 2020
This competition was sponsored by Fidelity Investment. Faced with the challenge to engage millennials in the world of investment, our team
approached the issue by creating an application to stimulate education on investing and budgeting. The case opened my eyes
to the unfamiliar territory of marketing, external analysis, and investment. We were honored to place second our of 56 teams.
Lazaridis School of Business and Economics - Oct 2019
LAZZIC Local was my first business case competition ever. Not having any business conference or DECA experience form high school, I
was excited to try out something completely new. Our team was given a case about Foresters Financial's investment products, and was presented a challenge about its business strategies involving the core values, industry and technology.
Within 24 hours, we were to analyze the situation, develop a solution, and present our solution to the judges.
Grateful for all the support...
